How to cite external resources without disrupting the conversation flow
I frequently write in-depth guides for my own site and I often see questions on message boards that my guides answer perfectly. However, I’m always a bit nervous about including a link because I don't want to break the community rules or be seen as a spammer. How do you all manage to share a helpful reference without it feeling forced? I want to contribute to the collective knowledge of the thread while still getting my work out there.

The "how" is just as important as the "what." If you find a thread where your guide is relevant, try to summarize the main answer in the post itself first. Then, you can offer a forum backlink as an "optional deep dive" for those who want more detail. This shows that you are trying to be helpful right there in the thread, which moderators almost always appreciate. It keeps the discussion moving while providing extra value.
