Homemade Bone Broth


2-3 pounds of chicken, turkey, beef or other bones (if using raw bones, first roast at 425 for 25-30 minutes)

1 onion, quartered

4-5 cloves garlic

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

filtered water

herbs, salt and pepper



Place bones, onion, and garlic in a slow cooker. Add filtered water to cover the bones and vegetables, then add the vinegar. Cook on low for 8-16 hours. Add herbs of choice (bay leaves, thyme, parsley, etc) and cook another 30 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, then add salt and pepper to taste. Use immediately or store in refrigerator up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 6 months.
