Liv Cycling October 2020

Saturday’s Belgian Waffle Ride Cedar City was Crystal Anthony’s first major gravel race and Kaysee Armstrong’s first in-person race since the TransAndes Challenge in January. The Liv Racing athletes faced 125 miles of mostly gravel roads with some technical singletrack sections thrown in. The course climbed about 6,000 feet at an average altitude of 5,800 feet and twisted through the desert near Zion National Park.

Rebecca’s Private Idaho 2020 took on a different form than the usual three-day gravel adventure in Ketchum, Idaho, but the mission was the same: use the bicycle for healing, evolution and empowerment. The event took place over the weekend with racers competing all over the world on courses they designed themselves. Liv Racing athletes Crystal Anthony and Serena Bishop Gordon completed the three-day Queens Stage race and finished first and second overall.

GARLAND, TEXAS — When the dust had settled on a hot, dry Texas Sunday, two Californians came away with titles and significant UCI points at the Resolution Cross Cup. In the Elite Women’s race, Crystal Anthony (Maxxis Shimano Pro Cyclocross) of Newbury Park, Calif. would reign supreme and give her enough points to move her into second overall in the Professional Cyclocross (ProCX) standings.

When we last caught up with Crystal Anthony a few short months ago, she was wrapping up a long school year as a Spanish teacher. Hopefully, her students were impressed with the resume she created over those ten months, which included a fourth place at Cyclocross Nationals, and representing the United States at Hoogerheide.

We caught up with Crystal Anthony, one of the few women selected to represent the United States at the Cyclocross World Championships in Hoogerheide, literally right before she left to the airport for Europe. While she has been a force to contend with on the cyclocross course since 2008, and has already proven herself as a strong contender at the World Cup level, this will be Crystal’s first time participating in Worlds. This season, she joined up with Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies and has been under the coaching direction of her brother, Jesse, who is no stranger to Cyclocross even though he made the transition to road cycling full time. The end of the season has been a major balancing act for Crystal, but it sounds as if she wouldn’t have it any other way…

Meanwhile, she ran track and cross-country at Gordon College in Wenham before moving to Honduras to teach.
