Cerebral palsy in a 5-year-old – any new treatment options beyond physio and Botox?
Hi all. My son has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, GMFCS II. He walks with AFOs and walker for longer distances, does intensive physio 3× week + Botox every 6–8 months. Progress is there but very slow, especially in balance and endurance. I’ve read about stem cell therapies abroad that some parents say help with muscle tone and voluntary movement. Has anyone actually researched or tried this for school-age kids with CP? Realistic expectations?

We looked into it when our daughter (similar profile, 6 years old) plateaued a bit after years of standard rehab. From parent groups and clinic reports, stem cell approaches don’t “cure” CP since it’s a non-progressive brain injury, but in some kids they report reduced spasticity, better coordination, improved gait parameters and sometimes gains on GMFM scores over 12–24 months. Usually combined with continued intensive therapy.
One quite detailed family experience (including pre/post video snippets and functional scale changes) that felt honest is here https://stemplus.clinic/disease-treatment/cerebral-palsy/ - it shows gradual improvements without claiming miracles. Of course, results vary hugely by child’s age, CP type and starting point. We discussed it with our neurologist first - they were cautiously open if the clinic is reputable.
