Gravel Skills Clinic FAQs

What skill level rider will benefit the most from the clinic?

The clinic is geared toward intermediate-level riders.  Riders should have a basic comfort on and familiarity with a gravel bike and should be able to ride 3-4 hours at a time. Riders who have experience on gravel but are looking to hone skills and to dial in fueling will benefit most from the camp.

Do I have to attend both sessions, the skills clinic and the fueling workshop?

Attendees may choose to sign up for the combined skills clinic and fueling workshop OR may choose to attend the fueling workshop only.

What skills will be covered?

One of the benefits to keeping the group small is that we are able to tailor the specific skills we cover to the needs and desires of the group.  Potential skills include:

  • Cornering

  • Descending

  • Climbing

  • Pace-lining

  • Under-biking

  • Fueling for training rides and for events

  • Fueling off the bike

  • Hydrating during training and racing

What kind of bike / tires should I bring?

You should ride the bike that you train and/or race on so that you get comfortable with gravel skills on your own bike.  Due to the sharp nature of Arkansas gravel (think limestone!), and the loose descents, at least 40mm tires with sidewall protection are advised. Tire inserts may also be helpful. Tire plugs and spare tubes are also essential. Personally, we both run mountain bike tires!

What is the nearest airport?

Fayetteville (XNA) is the closest airport, and is a 20-minute drive or ~$30 Lyft away from downtown Bentonville.

What kind of weather can we expect?

The average temperature in Bentonville in June is ~75 degrees.
